Directors Report

By: Cathy Perfetti

Here at PADS we are certain that anyone of us at anytime could experience some level of homelessness. Economic events have solidified these certainties which leave all of us uncertain as to what tomorrow will bring.

It is times such as these that PADS especially becomes a necessary part of our society. The McHenry County community has acknowledged the value of what PADS can provide by the record amount of donations PADS has received this year. We are grateful to those community members that went the extra mile to ensure the continuation of quality care for our homeless population. Not only was this a record year for donations but, also, a record year for visits to the Day Center.

Our mission here at PADS is to reconnect homeless men, women, and children with the community by providing emergency, transitional, and preventive services and to raise public awareness regarding homelessness in McHenry County.

Even though this has been a challenging year, the depth of our commitment and compassion to serve the homeless compels the staff of PADS to stay true to our mission which is reflected in our accomplishments, events and goals for our next fiscal year. For the first time PADS hosted the “Sleep out for Shelter” event that resulted in producing over 36 fundraising teams and over 300 participants by camping at Lippold Park and other locations scattered throughout the County. This event allowed individuals of all ages to experience a night of homelessness and raised necessary funds to continue our services.

Our Rindal Transitional Home continues to have a successful transition rate of 95% due to our professional staff and supporters. One family of five was able to successfully transition back into the community within 12 months after arrival! In addition, the PADS Day Center was able to develop our space to expand our services due to a Community Development Block Grant, Aptar Charitable Foundation, McHenry County Community Foundation funding and other generous donations. Lastly, the Church Site Program consisting of ten dedicated church sites continues to maintain shelter during the months of October through the end of April. This program attracts 1,000 plus volunteers each season which would not operate without their dedication and compassion for the homeless of McHenry County.

It is an honor to serve McHenry County by providing valued service to the homeless of this beautiful county. The sustainability of our services relies on continued support from our advocate donors. The PADS staff is proud to be a part of the county’s social service system and looks forward to another year of serving the homeless of McHenry County
